Power Station's new control system project
In this project Tektraco was roped in first with a consultation stage with the customer due to our fibre optic expertise. The equipment manufacturer demanded Multimode cable with no specifics, however the customer has long cable runs and was worried about the distance which can be achieved with Multimode and were therefore toying with the idea of OM4 cable.
Had they not been tied to the equipment manufacturer requirements, we would have recommended that single mode be used, as the cable is cheaper, easier to test and is not subject to constant revisions. After calculating the link budget requirements from the SFP datasheets, it was recommended that Om3 cable be used, as it fits the link budget while at the same time carries half the cost of OM4 – a substantial cost reduction for our client.
During the deployment of this 4.6Km cable, in which over 30x 19 Inch ODF were installed, we realised that the client was using 9m patch cords to connect to the devices required (which were housed in DIN rail cabinets). We immediately recommended our DIN rail ODF which would save the client time and money and as one can see this was taken on board as the last racks were finished using these DIN rail ODF’s.
The project was completed successfully whilst managing to reduce costs - Needless to say, another satisfied client!
